Top Baby Names for Boys and Girls in 2024
Last year, when I decided to do a round up of popular baby names for 2023, I didn’t realize how fun it would be to create the list and then see these name popping up over and over again with baby book and pregnancy journal orders throughout the year! From celestial names like Luna, to classics like James, we got to watch the naming trends play out first hand with each baby book cover we printed.
So this year, I wanted to do another roundup with more names that are going to be topping the baby name charts in 2024. Like last year, we pulled together research from across the internet (including data from the Social Security Administration, BabyCenter, The Bump and, of course, our own custom name cover orders) and put together a comprehensive list so you don't have to scour each of these sites individually to find a name that you love.
Last year, we saw a resurgence of old-fashioned names making the list, and that will continue this year with parents also choosing old-fashioned nicknames for their little ones (think "Millie" or "Winnie").
What's different in 2024?
While we saw celestial names having their day in 2023 for baby girls, we see more nature-inspired names pulling ahead this year (like "Juniper," "Dahlia," and "Poppy"). When it comes to popular boy names, parents seem to be keeping it short and sweet with names like "Tate," and we're also seeing name with a bit of a cowboy influence emerge (like “Wyatt” and “Stetson”).
But regardless of the latest trends, the top spots continue to be held by the names Liam, Noah, Oliver, James, Amelia, Charlotte, Olivia, Mia and Luna. This has been the case for the last few years, so if you want a name that has longevity - these are the ones to pick from!
Below are the lists we put together of the most popular names for boys and girls in 2024 - did your favorites make the cut? We expanded the list from 30 to 40 names this year, because there’s just too many good ones!
